Appointed in 2016, Senegalese born Fatma Samoura, became the first female to be appointed as Secretary General of FIFA, one of the highest positions in the world of football. She replaced Jerome Valcke who was implicated in a corruption scandal.
Prior to the FIFA role she has held positions with the United Nations as well as hailed as the most powerful woman in international sports by Forbes in 2018.
