Innocent Chukwuma, the founder of Innoson Motors gave his all to a dream of eradicating the importation of used motorcycles from Nigeria. His original intention was to cut cost and enable people to buy brand new devices instead. He believed and at the age of 25 pioneered the first “made-in-Nigeria” motorcycle brand which by all means is a groundbreaking achievement. The company not only produce for Nigeria, but it also produces for other African countries with a price equivalent or even less than the “second hand” automobiles.
Today, the company manufactures trucks, SUVs, buses, sedans, and even spare parts for the Nigerian army’s fighter jets. The automobiles are built to be rugged and consume less fuel. In other words, they can withstand harsh weather conditions and cover more distance. Also, motor parts are very accessible via a network of sub-dealers. IVM is teaching us all a lesson, that Africans are not a “second hand” people. This is great news for automobile business in African and will open doors for international partnerships.
