M-Kopa is a Kenyan solar energy private company that has its headquartered situated in Nairobi. The M-Kopa company deals with sales of home solar systems in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. It was founded in 2011 by Nick Hughes, Chad Larson, and Jesse Moore but launched as a commercial venture in 2012. The central focus of M-Kopa is “power for everyone”.

It is an African innovator that harnesses mobile money and advances in solar power and battery storage to leapfrog the continent’s gaps in electric power generation. As at January 2016, M-Kopa had connected over 300,000 homes in East Africa to solar power.

Customers in off-the-grid households deposit a sum to take the solar system home, and then they pay a daily amount through M-Pesa for a year after which they own the system. M-Kopa interacts with its consumers and communicates new ventures via Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.  M-Kopa makes high-quality solar systems affordable for everyone.
