Jonga is a home security outfit created by Ntsako Mgiba with the support of the Santam safety ideas campaign. The menace of insecurity is one the rise in South Africa, and the citizens have been yearning for a way to protect their homes from intruders; this birthed the idea of Jonga. Jonga means ‘to watch’ in the native Xhosa language.
Traditionally, the known methods applied to keep unwanted persons out of one’s home is through the use of barriers and high fences. This method has been discovered to be a bit too expensive for low-income earners in South Africa. Jonga aims to bridge this economic divide by building low cost as well as low security system that’s paired with the home owner’s Smartphone and sends a notification as soon as the home is breached by an outsider.
The homeowner can subsequently trigger an alarm system through the mobile app that alerts neighbors. One can get necessary information about their products on their Facebook page. This is such huge news for low-income homeowners who have been looking for ways to secure their homes from intruders.
