What Happens When Launch Support Ends?

A simple launch-support check for seeing which parts of adoption can continue after hypercare, floor walkers and the project team step away.

Quick reminder

Temporary support should reveal the route into normal work, not become the route itself.

What this Guide helps with

Use it when launch usage looks strong but questions, exceptions, confidence and daily task completion still depend on floor walkers, drop-ins, project experts or temporary funding.

Keep it small

Pick one changed task for review, not the whole programme. Follow one task from launch support into normal operations.

The Pattern behind this Guide

Adoption Cliff: this public Pattern post contains the quiz that leads into this Guide.

The check

Pick one changed task
Choose something people must keep doing after launch: use an AI assistant, create a record, approve a request, submit an order, close a case or produce a report.
List every temporary support
Record floor walkers, drop-ins, project experts, daily reminders, extra approvals, temporary help desks and manual fixes currently helping the task succeed.
Count what support is carrying
Note the questions answered, exceptions resolved, corrections made and decisions supplied by temporary support.
Run the Monday test
Ask what happens the first week after support ends. Who receives the questions and who owns the exceptions?
Test one support removal safely
Remove or reduce one temporary support for a small group and observe what stalls, returns or gets escalated.
Name the normal owner and route
Confirm the operational team, knowledge source, escalation path and funding that remain after the project closes.

Where this commonly hides

AI and copilotsUsage is high while prompt clinics and project reviewers are available, then falls afterwards.
ERP and CRMFloor walkers keep transactions moving during launch, but normal support cannot handle exceptions.
Digital portalsUsers complete tasks while launch teams guide them, then return to email or phone.
AutomationThe bot works while project experts manually correct failures behind the scenes.
Policy and process changeTemporary briefings and office hours carry interpretation that never reaches normal management.

Quick examples

What you seeQuestion to ask
Usage drops immediately after hypercareWhich support activity was included in the apparent adoption?
The same questions move to managersWhat normal support route was never created?
The old process returns on MondayWhat capability or exception did the new process still not carry?
Hypercare keeps getting extendedWhich exit criteria or transfer decision are missing?

The Satire

Hypercare was temporary but the dependency didn’t get the memo and has requested permanent residency.

This is a lightweight Guide, not a diagnosis or instruction to remove useful support. Hypercare can be valuable. Check whether ownership, capability and escalation remain after it ends.
